Walk into any bookstore today, and you will find shelves full of books devoted to positive thinking for business success.  Positive thinking is great – but it is simply a great start to a successful business career and not the end-all-be-all cure that it is touted to be.

Why is it just a great start?  Because we can sit around and think positively all day, but nothing will happen until positive thinking translates into positive ACTION!   Without action, no new seeds are planted and nothing moves forward.  Action is a critical component for success.

In defense of positive thinking, it is certainly easier to get moving and make progress towards a task when you are in a positive frame of mind rather than a negative one.  But taking action is also the first step towards moving into a positive frame of mind.  The corollary to this is that it is far easier to think negatively when you are doing nothing than when you are positively engaged.

The next time you are fighting the FUD monster in your mind – which stands for Fear – Uncertainty and Doubt, make a list of positive actions you can take towards accomplishing your goals.  Then waste no more time – get busy!  See if your thoughts don’t start to automatically become more focused and positive as you take concrete action towards your objectives.
